This year I started on my cloud development journey. Having had little to no exposure on AWS or any of the cloud platforms previously this has been a real learning curve for me. I learn best in a practical context so after 12 months of work with AWS and to help TapeArk meet their partner requirementes I sat my AWS associate developer exam.
Prep was a little challenging, the majority of AWS’s offerings is for the serving of web content. Whilst a lot of the work we do at TapeArk is ‘back-end’ with a focus on databases and storage. So a lot of questions on Elasitic Beanstalk, Kubernetes and cloud front were not areas I had practical experience in. Thankfully the storage, Lambda, RDS and IAM/Security questions I was a lot more comfortable with. The others, I brushed up my knowledge on using the A Cloud Guru training material.
I took the exam whilst I was in Vegas for the AWS Re:Invent conference and passed before the last day! Which meant I got some bonus swag as well
Next Steps
The process whilst a little stressful with company connetations attached was ultimately enjoyable. I certainly want to get other ceritificates now and Improve my qualifications. I’ve started a Coursera course on Machine-Learning and think I may pursue that specialisation next on my way to attaing full AWS Dev Ops professional certification.
